Six weeks, Mondays September 14th-October 19th, 6:00 pm- 9:00 pm

This class introduces three-dimensional art practices with a focus on ceramic materials and techniques. The goal is to help students develop critical thinking, intuition and visualization skills in working with clay, while emphasizing creativity, craftsmanship, and artistic expression.

Using hand building skills; coiling, slabs, etc., students will learn the necessary fundamentals to consider when creating 3D forms, exploring spatial relationships and the inherent material properties of clay. Part of the course will be spent critically analyzing ceramic artwork and developing problem-solving skills through case-studies. The class will explore how color, surface, shape, and conceptual inspiration come together to create a form and how to apply these principles to future projects.

Building on lectures and demonstrations, students will put these fundamentals into practice, applying foundations in exercises building their own work across design, functional art, and sculptural approaches.
